The original trip plan was to paddle out of Crinan on Saturday, camp in Loch Craignish, and paddle out on Sunday. However a scarcity of campsites not covered in bracken, and able to accommodate 6 tents, meant that the proposed location moved to the other side of the Craignish peninsula, with the destination for Saturday night now being Torsa.
The weather gods however had other plans.... Friday's forecast promised F5-6 winds, which duly arrived. Saturday's forecast was for F4-6, which was definitely "out of remit", but F2-3 was promised for Sunday, so Plan C was brought into play.
Thus, Saturday's paddle was cancelled (although Lucy, Sophie & myself did venture an exploration of Loch Sween), and Rosie, Ann, Richard, Lucy & myself foregathered at Craignish Village Hall at 10:00 on Sunday in a blessedly midge-free flat calm. The mirror-like conditions stayed with us as we pottered down the southern side of the the loch, prospecting future campsites. The cabin on the southern tip of Island Macaskin was occupied, so we carried on to Liath-sgeir Mhor for a lunch-stop. As we finished lunch the flat calm suddenly became a F3 - from the North naturally enough.... we paddled up the western side of Macaskin, and then had a bit of a slog into the wind to reach the northwestern side of the loch. The tide being almost full, we were then able to hug the relatively sheltered coast & slip up behind the islands to the marina & back to our start point. The Craft Kitchen provided to necessary post-paddle tea & cakes.
